Mabel Rivera (actress) and Enrique Banet (director of photography and t.v. producer), as professionals of the audio-visual industry, have decided to dedicate a substantial part of our work, perhaps the most of it, to produce works of social commitment, reporting on unfair practises or abuses which may jeopardize essentials as the environment, minority cultures, and so on.
Activities of this type bear personal and economic costs, balanced by the satisfaction of contributing to a necessary change leading to a more just, solidary and respectful society.
Our opening works in this line of commitment are two full-length documentaries titled "The Wages of Silence" and "A Tombstone over O Courel". We have put both works on the market by organizing a large number of screenings in a variety of places: pubs, town halls, social and cultural associations, press clubs, high schools, universities, cinemas, etc., where we would debate and inform the audience directly about the matter dealt with in the documentary. The sale of copies in DVD at symbolic prices - just enough to make up for our production expenses - enabled us to share the profits with local associations or communities affected by the problem denounced in the work.
At present we are trying to take a more ambitious step forward. We plan to make feature films as well as documentaries, continuing in the same line. Obviously, the costs will be much higher and we won't be able to gather the necessary funds by ourselves and that's why we are exploring a new formula of pre-sales in the web. The potential audience may buy a copy in advance without taking any risk in the operation, as we declare that, in the event that we are not able to raise the amount needed to finish the film/documentary, all the pre-paid money will be refunded.
The cost of the copies is indicated together with a brief description of each work separately; you will receive the corresponding DVD once the movie/documentary is finished. There are three different projects to which you may subscribe, each one with a different and particular appeal:
On the Threshold of Heaven is a feature film to be shot in the area of Solu-Khumbu, in Nepal. Its script and presentation in pdf are available at the ”download” section. The 20% of the profit from its sales will be donated to help associations of Tibetans who took refuge in Nepal.
Galicia Four Seasons is a full-length documentary showing the evolution of the nature in Galicia (North West of Spain) throughout a whole year, making a special point of the biodiversity. To this end, we rely on the collaboration of a large number of experts from the Galician University . The 30% of the profit from the sales of this work will be donated to Galician associations committed in the defense of our environment.
Sherpas is an ethnographic series consisting in five chapters each running 60', which show the most surprising trades and tasks, from the handmade elaboration of the khuhuri (the knife of the very famous Ghurka warriors) out of a simple car crossbow; or the building of a comfortable house up in the mountain with the only aid of their hands, stones, mud and wood, including the transport of these raw materials on the workmen's shoulders. After various journeys in different years and seasons, the shooting stage has been completed and is now in edition. The 20% of the profit from its sales will be handed to the Foundation Galicia Verde (Green Galicia) which will employ it – through its project On the Threshold of Heaven – to provide the porters in the poorest areas of the Nepalese Himalayas with the appropriate footwear.
